MAMP!

A few days ago I wrote about hosting a website from your home but in Singapore, if you have a residential broadband connection, you can’t legally host a website from your computer. Which means that the only reason anyone would want to have all the web serving software installed in their computer would be to “check out” or develop content locally, on the computer, before uploading to the webserver. That being the case, I can understand why most people wouldn’t…

Gallery moved!

Gallery moved!

Finally got around to moving my Coppermine photo galleries from coolsphere.org over to the syamsul.net server. It was really much easier than I’d expected! This is what I did: Create a new MySQL database and username for my new Coppermine installation on syamsul.net using phpMyAdmin Using phpMyAdmin on coolsphere.org, export the existing Coppermine gallery database into a .sql file Now import that .sql file into the syamsul.net database mentioned in Step 1 Copy (or if you know how, archive) the…

Managing your iTunes library

Managing your iTunes library

One of the reasons I upgraded from a 2nd-generation to a 3rd-generation iPod was to gain song-rating capabilities. I really really thought that I’d constantly be rating all my music on my iPod while on the move, so that I could make better manage my iTunes library and create smarter playlists. It didn’t work out that way though. The reason is simple – I simply grew to prefer leaving my iPod in my pants pocket or bag. So I took…

the birth of syamsul.net!

the birth of syamsul.net!

Couldn’t resist Yahoo’s offer of getting my own domain name for only ~$5 a year, which is really cheap even if it’s US$$, because most Singapore hosts offer it for ~S$20. So, I clicked a few buttons and..voila…syamsul.net was born! Decided to get a cheap S$2.50 monthly plan from Focushub to go with it though, and am moving my blog and photo gallery to this account, leaving my coolsphere.org site with more space to host my school-related websites. Had a…
