the “iCheap” arrives
More than a year ago, I decided that I needed a desktop Macintosh; alas, Apple’s consumer desktops i.e. the eMac and iMac, all offered integeated monitors, which I simply do not need. So I had to settle for an old used PowerMac G4 instead, and has since juiced it quite a bit with processor, memory and hard drive upgrades etc. Never stopped me from wishing Apple would release a cheap, headless, desktop Mac though. An iCheap, as I would call it. Today, Apple did the unthinkable by releasing its first sub-US$500 Mac ever: the Apple – Mac mini.
I’m really impressed by the design and price point, though I’ll hold off comments on anything else till I actually get to play with one (apparently only available from 29 January onwards). Heck, I might even be tempted. :p Apple also announced a slew of other software upgrades, including iLife 05 and the new iWorks 05 (i.e. Keynote 2 and the new Pages). Am especially intrigued by Pages…will be keeping my eyes open for reviews.
