Like this website, the school websites I helped develop all run on various open source software. But what exactly is open source software? It’s more than simply free, and open source software needn’t in fact be completely free. Confused? So was I, really. I suggest taking a look at this easy-to-understand primer – What Is Open Source.

It’s amazing just how much technology leaps ahead in a mere 2 decades. I still remember drooling over the first computers with CD-ROM drives (yes, they were either Macs, or PCs that came with the ~S$1,000 Creative kit with a single-speed CD-ROM drive!) First, Apple announced that it was going Intel Inside. Now, Apple’s released a…gasp!…multi-button mouse too! The Mighty Mouse!! Reviews thus far (like this one by Ars Technica) have been fairly positive. I am personally enamored of the beautiful design: look ma, no unsightly wheel or visible buttons!
