Right now, whenever I’d like to be able to view a movie I own on a portable multimedia device (e.g. my recently-acquired iPod Touch!), I’d have to “rip” and then encode the desired movie into a suitable format (e.g. H.264 or Xvid).Simple enough a process (if you know how to do it), but definitely time-consuming. It seems that the major movie studios are finally taking notice of this type of usage though, with the introduction of “digital copies”.Â
Essentially, the movie DVD comes with a digital copy version too – at no additional charge – which you can then copy to your portable media device. Definitely a step in the right direction!
Panicked quite a bit last night (and earlier this morning when iMac seemed to be stuck at the grey “Apple logo screen”, never getting to the login screen. And all this after a power trip at home!
Tried Techtool Pro – it reported the error, but couldn’t seem to fix it!
Thankfully came across a tip on using fsck in Terminal after booting up from OS X Install DVD
